More than 80 women spent Shabbat Shuva, the weekend between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, in the foothills of Sonoma County exploring what it means to be on their “mid-life journey.”

Breaking down into tribes named for female biblical figures, the participants shared their personal stories, danced, sang, and created new rituals as part of The Next Tent, an experiential workshop created by Maxine Epstein and Nancy Pechner.

The event was held Sept. 18-20 at the Camp Newman Retreat and Conference Center in Santa Rosa. The women were ages 45 to 75.

“It proved to be magical and inspiring, fun and relaxing, and most of all, transformative,” participant Lorraine Harris wrote. “We created a space bringing forth the wisdom of our matriarchs, the comfort of our Jewish rituals, and the richness of our Jewish heritage. Bringing the past forward and creating a new ‘tent’ to celebrate, to learn, to empower and make holy our lives as women.”
