An Israeli Jewish man was arrested in the assault on a leader of Rabbis for Human Rights.
Israel police on Nov. 7 brought in the man they believe attacked Rabbi Arik Ascherman last month with a knife while he helped Palestinians harvest olives near the West Bank settlement of Itamar, Haaretz reported.
Ascherman, who was not injured, is a U.S.-born Reform rabbi who lived for a time in Berkeley. He was the director of U.C. Davis Hillel for two years and then served Temple Beth Hillel in Richmond. He moved to Israel in 1994 to be a co-director of Rabbis for Human Rights. — jta
