The JCC of San Francisco invites community members to be part of the Global Day of Jewish Learning by attending a free event filled with stories, philosophy and wisdom.

The annual Jewish learning day, set for Sunday, Nov. 15, is a 6-year-old project of the Aleph Society, which supports the work of the talmudic scholar Rabbi Adin Steinsaltz and his mission to “Let my people know.” This year’s theme is “Love: Devotion, Desire and Deception.”

Hundreds of communities in more than 30 countries will participate through text study, discussion and lectures. Other events can be found at www.theglobalday.org.

Additionally, rabbis, scholars, writers and artists will chat online around the clock in a component called 24×24. Rabbi Peretz Wolf-Prusan, senior educator at Lehrhaus Judaica in Berkeley, is in the lineup, as is Rabbi Zac Kamenetz, senior educator at the JCCSF. The online program is free and begins at 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14 with a talk by Steinsaltz.

Wolf-Prusan will offer an online lecture titled “Desire: It’s Good For You! The Body, Sexuality and Fat Rabbis in the Talmud” at 7 p.m. Nov. 14. Kamenetz’s lecture, “A Thousand Kisses Deep: Four Voices That Fell in Love with God,” will be broadcast at 1 p.m. Nov. 15.

The program in San Francisco will run 12 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 15 at the JCCSF, 3200 California St., S.F. For more information, visit www.tinyurl.com/globalday-jccsf or call (415) 292-1200.
