An all-day symposium titled “How to Talk About Israel: Let’s Have a Conversation” takes place April 3 at Temple Isaiah, 943 Risa Road, Lafayette.
“The genesis of the event was the growing dissemination of misinformation about Israel, not only in the Middle East and Europe but closer to home on our local campuses through the boycott, divestment and sanctions movement,” said Paula Schiff, event chair. “As a result, many in our community want to be able to distinguish between myths and facts about Israel.”
Speakers at the workshops, which run 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., include Rabbi Menachem Creditor of Berkeley’s Congregation Netivot Shalom, Eran Kaplan, San Francisco State chair of Israel studies; Tova Birnbaum, formerly of Israel’s BINA, the Center for Jewish Identity and Hebrew Culture; BlueStar’s Jonathan Carey; JCRC Middle East project manager Jessica Kosmin; and Riva Gambert, former East Bay Israel Center director.
