Jewish Family Services of Silicon Valley is trying to collect more than 12,000 pounds of kosher food after Santa Clara County failed to qualify in 2016 for an allocation from the national Emergency Food and Shelter Board.
County officials received $775,000 from the board in 2015 and are appealing the rejection of support this year, JFS executive director Mindy Berkowitz said. JFS received $48,000 last year from that allocation for its food program, she said.
JFS officials said community members and groups can help by holding food drives, sponsoring food packages for $36 or by donating to food bins at the Levy Family Campus in Los Gatos and local synagogues.
