A new partnership with national Jewish breast cancer organization Sharsheret will allow the Peninsula Jewish Community Center in Foster City to deepen its breast cancer educational programming and open more resources for community members fighting the disease.
“We will have the opportunity to combine our local cancer resources with their vast national expertise,” said PJCC breast cancer exercise specialist Vicki McGrath. “This will enable the PJCC to enhance our support to women and families throughout the Peninsula facing cancer.”
McGrath administers the PJCC’s five-year-old Pink Ribbon Program, which trains recovering breast cancer patients in exercise programs. Exercise has been shown to decrease the recurrence of cancer by 25 to 50 percent, McGrath said, as well as decreasing stress and fatigue.
