Bay Area residents with Polish Jewish ancestry can learn more about their family trees in free sessions with a genealogist from Warsaw.
Matan Shefi, from the Jewish Genealogy & Family Heritage Center of the Emanuel Ringelbaum Jewish Historical Institute, will be available for 45-minute sessions in San Francisco and Berkeley as well as online sessions, courtesy of Taube Philanthropies’ Jewish Peoplehood Initiative.
Shefi, who is fluent in English, Polish and Hebrew, will be able to provide information for those with ancestry originating in both present-day and inter-war Poland. People signing up for sessions may be asked to bring additional information or prior research.
Consultations will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 12 at the Magnes Collection of Jewish Art and Life, 2121 Allston Way, Berkeley, as well as from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 14 at the JCC of San Francisco, 3200 California St., S.F., and from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Aug. 15 at the S.F.-based Jewish Community Federation, 121 Steuart St., S.F.
