B’nai Israel was incorporated in 1871 and opened its building in 1925 as the Petaluma Jewish Center. The Center for Jewish Life is an inclusive and diverse Jewish community, welcoming all who wish to pursue connection to Jewish community, spiritual teachings of Jewish tradition, cultural expressions and Jewish educational experiences for adults, youth and children. Programs include the Gan Israel Preschool, and a comprehensive youth education program for kindergarten through b’nai mitzvah preparation. The center offers weekly Shabbat morning services, holiday services and programs, along with opportunities for study including Torah, Talmud and Kabbalah. Other programs include musical Friday night services, social action, Israel action, and an online and in-person gift shop.
