LOS ANGELES — The last resting place for some of the most famous Jewish stars has been saved from bankruptcy.
Tyler Cassity, a St. Louis cemetery operator, bought Beth Olam Cemetery, the Jewish section of the century-old Hollywood Memorial Park, for $375,000 after two years of failed rescue attempts.
The sale was finalized on Friday of last week.
Cassity reportedly has plans for “high-tech” improvements at the cemetery, including installation of a computer terminal displaying digitized pictures of the loved ones and information about their lives.
An estimated 20,000 Jews are buried or cremated at Beth Olam, among them actors Paul Muni, Edward G. Robinson, Peter Lorre and Mel Blanc, producers Harry Cohn and Jesse Lasky and mobster Benjamin “Bugsy” Siegel.
