Each year, hundreds of writers from throughout the world enter the competition. Winners have included noted poets Philip Terman, Robin Becker and Myla Klarew, as well as new and emerging writers. Past judges include Alicia Ostriker, Enid Shomer, Chana Bloch and other distinguished poets and editors.

The winning poems of the 1998 contest will be read in a ceremony at the Magnes Museum during Chanukah.
