HIGHLAND PARK, N.J. — Leaders of the Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America have called on Orthodox Jews to unite and stand fast against pressures to undermine Jewish law.
“The battle for the supremacy of Torah remains at the top of our agenda,” Mandell Ganchrow, president of the union said late last month during the group’s 100th anniversary convention.
“We are prepared to dialogue with other groups on issues of Jewish unity, but we will never deviate from halachah [Jewish law]. Umbrella organizations must never be used as a forum for divisive theological issues.”
The organization also passed a resolution on pluralism, favoring outreach to other Jewish groups.
