About 48 percent of last year’s recipients were from families with gross incomes below $35,000; 42 percent were from single-parent families.
The BJE distributes camperships and interest-free loans with the support of the S.F-based Jewish Community Endowment Fund’s Newhouse Fund and Albert L. and Janet A. Schultz Supporting Foundation.
“Our community is making every effort to give our children an enriching Jewish education, whether through formal or informal experiences,” said Kerin Lieberman, the bureau’s associate director.
