Members of the Jewish community around the world are busy making preparations for the most solemn and important of holidays, marking the start of a new year.

Secretary Dick Cheney and I, along with Laura and Lynne, want to wish all Jewish families a happy New Year as they celebrate Rosh Hashanah. Holidays like Rosh Hashanah bring families together in celebration and remind us there is no greater blessing than to have this foundation of love and support in our lives. During the holidays, and especially at the beginning of every year, I reflect, like most Americans, how grateful I am for my family and faith. The Jewish community is a community that reaches out to each other to strengthen the bonds of family and faith, two powerful values that represent the fabric of America. Families ensure children take the right path in life by having faith in God and contributing to their communities. I hope this New Year brings peace, happiness, and the strengthening of the Jewish bonds of family and faith.

May you all be inscribed in the book of life for a happy and healthy New Year.
