“There’s very little out there nowadays that allows adults to learn about Judaism through art,” Fromer said.

Fischman designed a curriculum that aims to teach adults about modern Jewish artists and techniques in a variety of media. Through it, students will develop artistic skills that will give them tools to express prayer through symbols and images. Students will also examine their own history, culture and family customs.

The curriculum will debut in December at the Limmud Conference, a five-day Jewish educational conference at the University of Nottingham in England.

Fischman was raised in Providence, R.I., and began her formal training at the Rhode Island School of Design. She received her bachelor of fine arts degree from Boston University and a master’s in education from Cal State Hayward. Her work, which has been on display at the Oakland Museum Collector’s Gallery. will also be on the cover of the next Resource: A Guide to Jewish Life in the Bay Area.
