Diana Blank & David Epstein
Diana Nicole Blank of San Mateo, daughter of Beverly Schonbrunn and Murray Blank of Los Angeles, and David Avram Epstein of San Mateo, son of Roslyn Epstein of San Mateo and the late Cantor Herbert I. Epstein, have announced their engagement.
The bride-to-be received a bachelor’s degree in psychology and master’s in social work from the University of Southern California. She is an educator at Brandeis Hillel Day School, a DeLeT fellow and a Spanish-speaking, licensed social worker. She is the sister of Steven Blank of Brentwood. Grandparents are the late Rita and Maurice Blank and the late Irene and Paul Ross.
Her fiancé received a bachelor’s degree in economics from U.C. Santa Barbara and a master’s degree in applied mathematics from Cal State Hayward. A software engineer at America Online, he is a long-term volunteer at the Jewish Home in San Francisco. He is the brother of Jonathan Epstein of San Mateo. Grandparents are the late Betty and Abraham Levin and the late Bessie Weiss and Harry Epstein.
The couple met in September of 1996 at a beach party in Half Moon Bay sponsored by the singles group of Congregation Beth Am in Los Altos Hills. David asked for Diana’s phone number and called her the next day.
Though they went their separate ways in August of 1997, they managed to keep in touch over the years. Last August, David saw that she was online, and sent her an instant message. They met for dinner. The chemistry was still there, and though Diana was living in Los Angeles, they agreed to keep seeing each other. The relationship blossomed.
David proposed to Diana on Valentine’s Day of this year. Diana had flown in from Los Angeles and they enjoyed a romantic dinner at Trellis in Menlo Park. When they exchanged gifts, David presented her with a ring. Diana had a wide range of excited responses, but never actually said yes.
Soon after, David learned that she had accepted when he overheard her say to a friend on the phone, “Guess what? David and I are engaged!”
The couple plans to marry in January.
