‘Candlelight Walk’ marks anniversary of kidnapping
For the 16th year, friends, family and well-wishers marched somberly through Dublin, marking the anniversary of the kidnapping of Ilene Misheloff.
Her family, members of Temple Beth Sholom in San Leandro, led the walk from Wells Middle School to St. Raymond’s Church for an ecumenical prayer service on Jan. 31.
Misheloff, then 13, was abducted in January 1989; she would be nearly 30 today.
Emigre celebration and fund-raiser in S.F.
The fourth annual emigre community celebration with Jewish Family and Children’s Services will take place 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 5, at the Westin St. Francis Hotel, Union Square, San Francisco.
The celebration, which typically draws more than 500 people, raises money for the Bay Area’s emigre community. This year it is raising money for the emigre community in Israel.
Guest speakers will be Consul General of Israel David Akov, Rep. Tom Lantos (D-San Mateo) and Ruth Bar-On, executive director of the Crisis Management Center of Israel.
A silent auction and raffle begins at 6:30, with dinner and dancing following at 8 p.m.
Osher Marin JCC to host concert for tsunami relief
The Bernard Osher Marin Jewish Community Center is hosting a concert Feb. 17 to raise money for tsunami relief, in collaboration with the Ali Akbar College of Music.
Yair Dalal, an Israeli oud and violin player with Iraqi-Jewish roots, will play with Stephen Kent on the didgeridoo; Pakistani Sukhawat Ali Kahn of the fusion group Shabaz; sarode (Indian lute) player Alam A. Kahn — son of Ali Akbar Kahn; and Ganesh Kumar, kanjira (South Indian frame drum tambourine) player.
Tabla drummers Debashish Chaudhuri and Tabla Rasa also will perform, along with Charlotte Moraga, a local Indian kathak dancer.

Workshops on Jewish diversity
The Institute for Jewish & Community Research will offer the third annual Be’chol Lashon Think Tank on ethnic and racial diversity in the Jewish community, Friday, Feb. 18, to Sunday, Feb. 21. The event is a forum for conversation, networking and partnerships on the subject of diversity.
Forum workshops will feature Jewish community leaders from Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, Latin America, Israel and North America. The Sunday session will conclude with a 7 p.m. performance of African and African American Jewish music by the Abayudaya Jews of Uganda and Temple Bethel Choir of Philadelphia.

Museum seeks historical objects for exhibit
Napa Valley’s Jewish Historical Society is sending out a “call for objects,” including photographs, newspaper articles, Jewish ceremonial objects, diaries and commercial goods, to be displayed at the Napa Valley Museum.
The society is planning the display as part of the permanent exhibition “Napa Valley — The Land and the People.”
Members are seeking objects that relate to the themes of commerce, farming, viticulture, banking, community organizations and social life, and especially objects from 1848 through the 1930s. The deadline for receiving objects is March.

Top-notch chefs to cook for senior benefit
“Someone’s in the Kitchen,” an annual benefit for the Jewish Home of San Francisco, will be held 5:45 p.m. Tuesday, March 1, at Pier 30/32 in San Francisco.
