Gerald Deutsch San Carlos resident, passed away on June 23rd. He is survived by his wife Gloria, daughter Debra and son Robert. Gerald was a tank commander for the Armored Division during WWII. He enjoyed travel, bridge and was an avid sports fan. Funeral Services were held on Wednesday, June 28 at Hills of Eternity Memorial Park Chapel in Colma. Lucille Gorenberg passed away July 1, 2006, at her Dana Point home, looking out at her garden, surrounded by family. Daughter of Max and Sarah Richmond and sister of Selma Schneider of blessed memory, she was born in St. Louis on April 30, 1927. An artist and poet in her soul, full of humor, she taught her children — Judith, of blessed memory, Carol, and Gershom — to care about the world and fight to make it better. She is mourned by her forever-loving husband Norman, her children Carol Gorenberg of Santa Rosa and Gershom Gorenberg of Jerusalem, grandchildren Yehonatan, Elisheva and Shir-Raz, her large extended family, members of her congregation, and the many neighbors who loved her. She was laid to rest on July 3. Donations may be made to the Music Fund of Temple Beth El of South Orange County. May her memory be an inspiration.
Patience, Strength and Grace. Judith Hein passed away in her home at age 94 on Tuesday, June 27, 2006. She was a Peninsula resident and member of Peninsula Temple Sholom for the past 45 years. Judy was born in Chicago, the eldest of Alexander and Paula Maslow’s four children. She later lived in Los Angeles where she met her first husband, Charles Goodman, and raised her two children, Michael Goodman (Sharon) of Palm Desert and Karen Goodman Seinfeld (Dennis, deceased) of Tacoma, Washington. Charlie died in 1955, and in 1960 Judy married Max Hein, a pharmacist and owner of Ace Drugs in San Bruno. She also gained a devoted stepson, Jared Hein (Claire, deceased) of Hillsborough. Judy and Max’s twenty-year honeymoon began in Europe and ended with Max’s passing in 1979. Judy, a life long learner, enjoyed classes about current affairs and Jewish topics. For recreation, she especially enjoyed lively conversation and a good bridge hand. In addition to her children, Judy is mourned by sisters Evelyn Dolberg and Marie Levi of Los Angeles; grandchildren Chuck (Judith) Goodman of Los Angeles, Ken (Susan) Goodman of Oakland, Keith (Beth) Seinfeld of Seattle; Alexander (Tikva) Seinfeld of Baltimore, Nicole (David) Banschick of Jerusalem, Phillip Hein and Melissa Hein of Hillsborough, Jennifer (Paul ) Buckley of Georgia, and 12 great-grandchildren. Life dealt Judy both winning and challenging hands. In every case, she played with patience, strength and grace. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions in Judy’s memory to Friends of Millbrae Library, Jewish National Fund, Mills Peninsula Hospital Foundation, or Peninsula Temple Sholom.
Ida Frances Ramen in Foster City on July 8, 2006. Born in Atlanta, Georgia February 12, 1913, she was the only daughter of Russian immigrants, Joseph and Fredya Mogul. She was raised in Atlanta, attending Girls High School, the Workman’s Circle School and graduated from the University of Georgia. She worked for the USO during World War II where she met Jack Ramen, a Master Sergeant in the Army. They were married in 1946 and moved to New York. In 1955 they moved to California and settled in San Mateo where they became founding members of Peninsula Temple Sholom. Ida became the PTS Sisterhood’s first Woman of Valor award recipient and remained active in temple life until her passing. She is survived by her children Joan & Rich Biederman, and Gail Ramen and her two granddaughters, Dina and Shanna Biederman. Services were held at Peninsula Temple Sholom in Burlingame. The family requests contributions to Peninsula Temple Sholom. Arrangements made thru Sinai Memorial Chapel.

Miriam “Mim” Simon, 83, died peacefully in her Walnut Creek home on Saturday, July 9, 2006. Mim was born June 15, 1923, in North Dakota. Later, her family moved to a small farm in Ontario, CA. She attended U.C. Berkeley, where she met her beloved husband, Albert, to whom she was married for 62 years. Together, Mim and Al built a very successful toy distribution business in the ’60s and 70’s. They were very active in the Jewish Welfare Federation, their Synagogue and the East Bay Home for Jewish Parents. They formed many strong friendships, which grew from their good deeds and involvement in the East Bay Jewish community. Mim Simon is survived by her husband, Albert, her sisters; Gertie Bauman, Rachel Harris and Faye Kaufman; daughters, Sandy Kappelmann, Belinda Harris and Julie Glenn; son, Lance Simon; 10 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
