Poet Amichai scheduled to read works around Bay Area

Israeli poet Yehuda Amichai will read and discuss his works at three Bay Area venues in events co-sponsored by the Consulate General of Israel, the Israel Project, the Israel Center, U.C. Berkeley and Berkeley Hillel.

At 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27, Amichai will speak in the boardroom of the Albert L. Schultz Jewish Community Center, 655 Arastradero Rd., Palo Alto. The reading will be conducted in Hebrew.

At 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29, he will speak in Room 10 of Evans Hall on the U.C. Berkeley campus. The next night at 7:30 p.m. the poet will appear at the Fire House in San Francisco’s Fort Mason, at Buchanan and Marina Boulevards.

Houdini reappears

Honor Houdini, the magician, on the 70th anniversary of his death, Oct. 31, 1926, and receive a medal. Contributors of $1,000 or more to the Judah L.
