Film festival box office up 14 percent
The 28th San Francisco Jewish Film Festival wrapped up its 18-day run
Aug. 11 with ticket sales up 14 percent over last year’s box office revenue. Festival attendees turned out for a record 114 screenings at five venues.
“The enthusiastic response to our programming, especially our documentary lineup, is so rewarding,” said Peter Stein, the festival’s director.
Added Program Director Nancy Fishman, “We increased the number of films in the festival to 70 because of the quality and breadth of films that we were tracking. I think our audience really responded to the variety of offerings.”
Oscar-winning ‘Counterfeiters’ on DVD
The award-winning Austrian film “The Counterfeiters” is now available on DVD and Blu-ray disc from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.
Written and directed by Stefan Ruzowitzky, “The Counterfeiters” tells the true story of a German Jewish swindler thrown into a Nazi concentration camp. In exchange for good treatment, he agrees to counterfeit bank notes to fund the Nazi war effort. The DVD includes director’s commentary, cast and crew interviews and behind-the-scenes featurettes.
The film beat out the Israeli nominee “Beaufort” for best foreign language film at the 2007 Academy Awards.
