Betty Simons celebrates her 100th birthday on Friday, Sept. 12. She is the mother of Nina Zentner and Martin Samuel, grandmother of four and great-grandmother of eight. Born in Poland on September 12, 1908, she was brought to London as a baby, where she grew up, married and raised her children before moving to San Francisco in 1970. She enjoyed an independent life until deciding to move into a retirement community about five years ago. She sees her family regularly and enjoys socializing with her fellow residents. She is blessed with a sharp mind and a wicked sense of humor.
