Laura Talmus, Western regional director of American Jewish World Service, and political strategist Ace Smith are starting a nonprofit in memory of their daughter, Lili Rachel Smith, who died last year at age 15.
Beyond Differences will work with parents, teachers and young people to help children and teens overcome social isolation. The nonprofit will create opportunities for children to experience one another “beyond their differences,” whether they are learning, gender, special needs, ethnic or racial.
To launch Beyond Differences and celebrate their daughter’s life, Talmus and Smith are organizing “Lili’s Life Celebration” on April 10. The day will begin with a 3.5-mile fundraising walk along Marin’s Tennessee Valley trail, to the beach and back.
Following the walk, the celebration will continue at the Tamalpais Valley Community Center. Tickets are $25 per person or $50 per family. Walkers who raise $100 or more receive one complimentary ticket.
