For the sixth year in a row, the San Francisco Giants are hosting Jewish Heritage Night, but there’s a new twist this season: For the first time, the event is being sponsored by the Jewish National Fund.
Some of the proceeds from ticket sales will go to benefit the JNF as well as Project Homeless Connect, a program providing services to the homeless in San Francisco. Special discounted tickets are priced at $20 for view reserved infield seats on the upper deck and $25 for lower level box seats.
First pitch is set for 7:15 p.m. Aug. 31 at AT&T Park against the Colorado Rockies. Not only are both teams in the race for first place in the National League West, but because the Giants won last year’s Jewish heritage game, they have a chance to do something they’ve never done before: win two straight Jewish heritage games.
The Giants beat the Arizona Diamond-backs in last year’s contest to improve their record to 2-3 in Jewish heritage games. Ticket sales in the Jewish sections usually number between 1,300 and 2,500.
Promotions for this year’s event include a giveaway of a black Giants beanie with a Jewish star and team logo in orange; a performance by a klezmer band in the center field plaza before the game; and a tailgate barbecue in parking lot D from 4 to 6:30 p.m. sponsored by Chabad of S.F. The tailgate will include free food, beer and music.
