Kahn, a San Francisco native, also received a bachelor’s degree from U.C. Berkeley, and was ordained at Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in New York. He started out as assistant director of the JCRC in 1982, and then became associate director under Rita Semel five years later. He assumed the top spot July 1, 1989.
