A new exhibition featuring the art of Holocaust victim Charlotte Salomon opened March 31 and will run until July 31 at the Contemporary Jewish Museum.
“Charlotte Salomon: Life? or Theatre?” features work by the young German Jewish artist, who produced approximately 1,300 paintings between 1940 and 1942 before she was arrested by the Nazis in 1943, transported to Auschwitz and killed at the age of 26. The CJM exhibit features nearly 300 of Salomon’s pieces, many of which are autobiographical paintings that combine images and text to tell her family’s story.
The CJM is located at 736 Mission St. in San Francisco. Adult admission is $10; seniors and students are $8; members and visitors age 18 and under are free. For more information, visit www.thecjm.org.
