The Taube Center for Jewish Studies at Stanford University has announced a free screening of the documentary “Tombées du Ciel” (Fallen from Heaven).
The first public showing of the film — in French with English subtitles — will be in memory of Nelee Langmuir, a French Holocaust survivor and a longtime Stanford French teacher. She died of cancer Aug. 11, 2010 at age 78.
The film is about Langmuir and her sister, two girls who survived the Holocaust in France and reunited with their parents after the war. Years later, there is a reunion with their rescuers.
At a pre-screening reception, the first recipient of the Nelee Langmuir Award will be announced. The 2011 award will be go to a student in European modern history, with an emphasis on the Holocaust. The 2012 award will honor an outstanding undergraduate studying French. (The annual prize will alternate between the two areas of study.)
