After two years of making improvements and renovations on a house it purchased in 2009, Hillel of Silicon Valley is finally ready to hold a grand opening party. The free celebration is slated for Oct. 9 in San Jose.

The ceremony will include a kosher barbecue, music and presentations by historians April Halberstadt and Stephen Kinsey about the Jewish legacy of San Jose. House tours also will be available.

The house, a former private home that includes a 2,000-square-foot main floor and an 800-square-foot basement, will be used by students from San Jose State University, as well as nearby Santa Clara University and Foothill, De Anza and West Valley community colleges.

The festivities are scheduled to run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Hillel of Silicon Valley, 44 S. 11th St., San Jose. For more information, call (408) 286-6669, visit www.hillelsv.org or email [email protected].
