Gilda Fern Golden

July 15, 1928–Nov. 4, 2011

In San Rafael at age 83. Beloved wife of Irving Golden for 45 years; loving mother of Douglas (Joyce), Arlene (Robert), Kenneth (Catherine), Steve, Lois (Charlie) and Diane (Barry); adoring grandmother of five and great-grandmother of one; close relative and friend to many.

Gilda was born and raised in San Francisco and was a graduate of Washington High School. She worked for ABC Towing for over 25 years. In her retirement years Gilda was actively involved in many organizations including City of Hope–Marin Chapter, Hadassah, Congregation Rodef Sholom and the San Rafael Police Department. She enjoyed knitting, playing Maj, cooking and traveling.

Funeral services were held Nov. 7, 2011 at Salem Memorial Park, Colma. In lieu of flowers, contributions to a charity of your choice, preferred.

Elie Moussa

Elie Shalom Moussa Pessah, born Feb. 10, 1940 passed away early Sunday morning, Nov. 6, 2011. The best dad, husband, grandfather and friend anyone could ask for.

He is survived by wife, Sara, daughter, Deborah Maleh, and son, Morris Moussa. Proud grandfather of Derek, Drake and Dahlia Maleh and Joshua Moussa. The Jewish community mourns the loss of not only a great man but a true leader.

Bernard Slavin

In Los Angeles, Oct. 8, 2011 surrounded by loving family. Born in San Francisco, son of Max and Sophie Slavin. Loving husband of Sonia Slavin, devoted father of Michelle Ritholtz (Bruce), David Slavin (Nehama) and Jennifer Pollock (Mordechai). Brother of Thelma Slavin Proweller (deceased), Jerry Slavin and Helen Schneider.

Bernie graduated from George Washington High School, attended U.C. Berkeley and received his Ph.D. in Human Anatomy from UCSF followed by his post-doctoral training at Yale University. He was on the faculty in the Cell and Neurobiology Department, Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California for 42 years. During that time, he often was the recipient of the “Best Teacher Award.” In addition to his work at Keck, he used his expertise in human anatomy to provide testimony in court for law firms as an expert witness.

Bernard was a former president and gabbai at Beth Jacob Congregation in Los Angeles and continued to be an active and loving member throughout his life. Burial took place in Israel.
