Author and journalist Gershom Gorenberg will make three appearances in the Bay Area next week, speaking on the topic “Israeli Democracy: How It Broke and How to Fix It” and promoting his new book, “The Unmaking of Israel.”
Gorenberg, a dual Israeli and U.S. citizen who grew up in California and graduated from U.C. Santa Cruz, is a Jerusalem-based commentator on Middle East affairs and religion. He has appeared on “60 Minutes,” “Nightline” and “Dateline” as well as on NPR, CNN and the BBC. An associate editor of the Jerusalem Report for many years, he is now a senior correspondent for the American Prospect and writes a blog at www.southjerusalem.com.
Gorenberg’s visit is sponsored by the New Israel Fund, Congregation Beth El in Berkeley and Congregation Sherith Israel in San Francisco, along with several other synagogues and local organizations.
He will speak and sign books at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16 at the Pacific School of Religion, Room 100, Mudd Hall, 1798 Scenic Ave., Berkeley. That evening at 7:30 p.m., he will speak and sign books at Congregation Beth El, 1301 Oxford St., Berkeley. His third appearance will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 17 at Congregation Sherith Israel, 2266 California St., San Francisco.
