The Contemporary Jewish Museum is hosting a discussion titled “Midrash, Biblical Women, Poetry and Music” in conjunction with the Society of Biblical Literature’s annual conference in San Francisco.
Alicia Jo Rabins, a Brooklyn-based indie music songwriter, performer and biblical scholar, will lead the talk. Also participating will be Alan Cooper, provost at the Jewish Theological Seminary in New York, and Carol Bakhos, associate professor of Near Eastern languages and cultures at UCLA.
Rabins is a fiddler-vocalist known for writing music inspired by lesser-known biblical women. Two days before the talk, she will be at the Contemporary Jewish Museum to present her new song about Hagar, the Egyptian slave of Sarah impregnated by Abraham; the song was commissioned by the CJM.
The talk is set for 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday Nov. 20 and is free with museum admission. The CJM is located at 736 Mission St., San Francisco. For more information, visit www.thecjm.org.
