An interfaith discussion about circumcision, which will include perspectives from parents, scholars and religious leaders representing Jewish and Muslim communities, will be held in San Francisco.
Or Shalom Jewish Community is sponsoring the interfaith roundtable discussion at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4. It will cover more personal issues related to circumcision that were not addressed during the recent debate over a controversial ballot proposal in San Francisco. The measure, which was struck from the Nov. 8 ballot by a Superior Court judge, would have banned circumcisions for anyone younger than 18.
Leading the discussion will be Or Shalom Rabbi Katie Mizrahi and Ustadh Abdullah bin Hamid of Zaytuna College. Topics include the efforts to ban circumcision, the applicability of human rights concerns and the issues parents grapple with when deciding on circumcision.
