American Conservatory Theater artistic director Carey Perloff won the 2011 Blanche and Irving Laurie Foundation Theatre Visions Fund Award for her new play “Higher.”

The $50,000 award includes $25,000 to support the world premiere production, $10,000 for the playwright and $15,000 for ACT to commission two new plays over the next year.

“Higher” is Perloff’s fourth play, which she has been developing with ACT associate artistic director Mark Rucker for the past two years. Set in part in Israel, the play features two American architects locked in a competition to design a memorial in Israel.

“Higher” opens Feb. 1, 2012 at the Children’s Creativity Museum theater, 221 Fourth St., San Francisco. For information, call (415) 749-2228 or visit www.act-sf.org
