Israeli embassies and consulates raised their alert levels after several missions in the United States and Europe received envelopes containing white powder.
The white envelopes had the word “anthrax” written on them, according to reports; the powder inside was found to be flour.
The embassies and consulates that received the envelopes on Jan. 23 were in New York, Boston and Houston, and the European cities of the Hague, Brussels and London.
Hazardous materials crews ordered the Boston consulate closed for the day. The powder was tested on-site and found to be harmless, the Boston Globe reported. — jta
