“Cordelia, Mein Kind,” a multimedia performance that combines dance, film and visual art, kicks off this year’s Magnes by the Marsh, a partnership between the Marsh Theater and the Magnes Collection of Jewish Art and Life.
Magnes by the Marsh presents theatrical performances that explore contemporary Jewish culture in innovative ways.
“Cordelia, Mein Kind” will run Thursday, Feb. 2 through Feb. 5 at the Marsh in Berkeley.
Inspired by Shakespeare’s “King Lear,” the 55-minute piece is the brainchild of Jewish Australian artist Deborah Leiser-Moore.
It explores familial history and trauma, blending interviews between a reimagined Cordelia character and her late father — a Yiddish-speaking Holocaust survivor who spent much of his life in exile in a Melbourne suburb — with film and other visual imagery.
“Cordelia, Mein Kind,” directed and co-written by Meredith Rogers and choreographed by Sally Smith, comes to the Bay Area after two successful runs in Australia.
The Marsh is located at 2120 Allston Way, Berkeley. Showtimes are 8 p.m. Feb. 2 and 3, 5 p.m. Feb. 4 and 3 p.m. Feb. 5. Tickets are $15-$50. For information, call (415) 826-5750 or visit www.themarsh.org.
