An inclusive, welcoming community for all: families and singles of all ages; Jews of color; Jews-by-choice; interfaith couples; LGBTQ+ people; and those on diverse spiritual journeys. Members reflect the diversity of the Bay Area and the beauty of God’s infinite creation. Congregants come from all walks of life and represent many different religious, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Programs are designed to meet the varied spiritual, religious, educational, and social needs of members. Emanu-El is committed to study (Torah), worship (avodah), and working to repair the world (tikkun olam). The congregation is also committed to strengthening connections to a peaceful, strong, and vibrant Israel and to lasting peace with Israel’s neighbors.
The congregation invites those who are not yet members of this or another synagogue to consider joining. Proud to have been part of the San Francisco community since 1850, and while that history provides a rich heritage, embracing new congregants ensures that the congregation will be here to serve generations to come.
