Congregation Netivot Shalom
1316 University Ave. Berkeley, CA 94702
Rabbi Chai Levy [email protected]
The synagogue grew out of a collective commitment to creating an egalitarian spiritual home for Conservative/Masorti Jews. Based in Berkeley and allied with the broader Jewish community.
Members include Jews and non-Jews, Jews-by-choice, interfaith families, multiracial and multicultural individuals, married, single, families and individuals, LGBTQ+, straight, old and young. Congregants recognize and value each other as teachers and students.
Participatory, egalitarian community is defined by the values of:
- Belonging – nurturing connections with each other, the broader community and Israel.
- Learning – providing introductory and continuing encounters with Jewish wisdom.
- Ritual – deepening personal engagement with the sacred.
- Justice – embracing Judaism’s call to repair the world through deeds of loving-kindness and social action.
