The annual award, administered by the S.F.-based Jewish Community Federation's Endowment Fund and supplied by a fund established by friends of Bernard Osher, recognizes the efforts of an individual or organization striving for excellence in a cultural endeavor.

The award provides Bayview Opera House with a $7,500 cash prize and Frazier with a $5,000 honorarium.

Adath Israel hosts Bar Ilan professor

Political scientist Paul Eidelberg will speak on "How Democracy in Israel is leading to Tyranny: a Constitutional Solution" at 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21 at Adath Israel, 1851 Noriega St., S.F.

Eidelberg is a professor at Israel's Bar Ilan University, and the author of five books on the Arab-Israel conflict and on Judaism.
