The girl from Lodz. Rywka Lipsyzc was a 14-year-old Jewish girl in the Lodz Ghetto whose diary was found in Auschwitz in 1945. Only last year was the diary published, by the S.F.-based Jewish Family and Children’s Services and Lehrhaus Judaica; this month the first trade edition appeared, published by Harper Collins. It’s receiving rave reviews, including one in the Forward, which called it one of 12 must-reads for the fall. “Rywka’s Diary” will be discussed by Anita Friedman, JFCS executive director, followed by a book signing.
