Visitors to the Osher Marin JCC in San Rafael will be greeted by colorful butterflies as part of a collaborative exhibit in the main entryway through June.
“The Butterfly Project,” inspired by the 1994 book “I Never Saw Another Butterfly: Children’s Drawings and Poems from the Terezin Concentration Camp, 1942-1944,” commemorates Yom HaShoah (May 5) and builds on an initiative launched at the Peninsula JCC in Foster City. The exhibit celebrates “the diversity of our Marin Jewish community,” notes Heidi Sanders, manager of the Marin JCC’s Center for Jewish Peoplehood, with handmade butterflies created by children from the preschool, afterschool program and camps, seniors attending the JCC’s Friday Shabbat lunches, staff and board members, and visitors at this year’s Purim Palooza festival.
