Forum features S.F. Board of Ed candidates

The San Francisco-based Jewish Community Relations Council is joining with other local organizations to host a forum featuring candidates running for the San Francisco Board of Education. It will be held at 6:45 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 7 at Congregation Emanu-El, 2 Lake St.

The JCRC said all nine declared candidates for the Board of Education had confirmed their attendance at the forum, which also will be hosted by Emanu-El and the Raoul Wallenberg Jewish Democratic Club. Moderator is Emanu-El Rabbi Carla Fenves.

Among the topics expected to be discussed are equitable access to schools; school choice, including charter schools and the lottery system; language immersion programs, and curriculum. See jcrc.org for more information.

UpStart hosts Palo Alto ‘Innovator’s Toolkit’

UpStart Silicon Valley, which helps support fledgling Jewish organizations, will hold workshops on Wednesday, Sept. 7 at the Oshman Family JCC in Palo Alto focusing on how to design programs that best serve community members.

UpStart has helped cultivate dozens of early-stage Jewish organizations and used what it calls its “unique blend of entrepreneurial tools and Jewish wisdom” to train leaders in more established organizations.

The free workshops, called “Innovator’s Toolkit: Designing Programs that People Want,” will kick off a yearlong series. They will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 6 to 9 p.m. at the JCC, 3921 Fabian Way, Palo Alto. For information, visit upstartlab.org/silicon-valley.
