J. has won a pair of Rockower Awards for excellence in Jewish Journalism, given by the American Jewish Press Association, coming in first place in two categories for work published in 2016.
Former J. staff writer and current J. parenting columnist Drew Himmelstein won the top prize in the category of Feature Writing for her story, “More Jewish day schools are making Hebrew optional.” Freelancer and J. correspondent Patricia Corrigan won the first place Rambam Award for Excellence in Writing About Health Care care for her story “Alzheimer’s: Dignity/respect and emotional toll on caregivers.”
The Rockower Awards will be formally handed out at the AJPA’s annual convention, to be held Nov. 13-15 in Los Angeles.
How appropriate that J. staff got awards for coverage having nothing to do with politics or Israel. On those subjects their award would have been at best a dunce cap, at worst a kaffiyeh.
