Milestone birthday!

Nita Juelich celebrated her 100th birthday last month at Menorah Park, the San Francisco senior home where she’s lived for 31 years, longer than any other resident — or staff, for that matter.

The South African native stays sharp with her hobbies, including volunteer work, crossword and jigsaw puzzles and reading. She also likes to walk, and has participated in the AIDS Walk San Francisco for the last 30 years, including in July when she walked a half-mile and raised $1,600.

Friends and family came from Seattle, Palm Springs, Los Angeles and New York to celebrate the big 1-0-0. The secret to Juelich’s longevity? Having a sense of humor and enjoying life. And “don’t complain, because it doesn’t help.”
