Tevet 5784
Dec. 13–Jan. 10, 2024

Tevet always begins during Hanukkah, when Jupiter/Tzedek, the planetary ruler of the previous month of Kislev, and Saturn/Shabbatai, the planetary ruler of Tevet, are joined together by the Hanukkah lights.

Jewish astrology understands the cycles of Jupiter and Saturn to describe themes of world history and the energies of an era or epoch. The current Jupiter-Saturn cycle, which began in December 2020 with the “Great Conjunction” in Aquarius/D’li (the sign of the Jewish people), is slowly working to align us with our higher selves, individually and collectively.

The tikkun (repairing power) of Tevet is the rectification of the attribute of anger. This year of 5784, the “Dalet year” ruled by war-like Mars/Ma’adim, it’s more important than ever to elevate anger to its highest form, which is righteous indignation.

Righteous indignation is human anger aligned with Godly anger. Our sages warn us continually of the destructive powers of human anger. Used wisely, Tevet’s power turns anger away from others and towards one’s own yetzer hara (evil inclination) where it belongs. It’s the yetzer hara that misdirects righteous indignation to ego-driven human anger.

The Sun enters Capricorn/Gidi on Tekufah Tevet, the Winter Solstice, with the Sun and retrograde Mercury/Kochav sextile to Saturn. Mercury moves backwards into Sagittarius/Keshet on Dec. 22, re-connecting hopeful Jupiter to serious Saturn just in time for possibly the most inspirational, idealistic and aspirational transit of the year, Dec. 26-28: the Full Moon in Cancer/Sartan, with retrograde Mercury and Mars square Neptune/Rahav, and the Sun trine retrograde Jupiter. This is the week to wish upon a star, as Jupiter stations direct on Shabbos Vayechi, stimulating hope. Retrograde Mercury stations direct on Jan. 1, with Venus/Noga square to Saturn. The new secular year of 2024 does not come to play! Mastering Tevet’s tikkun by elevating ego-driven anger to righteous indignation spiritually empowers the coming solar year.

Aries / Taleh

Aries’ tikkun for Tevet’s anger is strengthening your faith. Aries is action-oriented, and faith sometimes feels sedentary, but this isn’t necessarily so. Mars/Ma’adim trines Wounded Healer Chiron on Dec. 15, the final night of Hanukkah, empowering unusual levels of action-oriented empathy. Retrograde Mercury/Kochav conjuncts Mars on Dec. 27, giving you a second chance to say the right thing. Check your facts before acting on blind faith Dec. 28 at the square of Mars to Neptune/Rahav. Feelings become less inflamed and more pragmatic when Mars enters Capricorn/Gidi on Jan. 4, and sextiles Saturn/Shabbatai Jan. 9. Get grounded by spending quality time with Mother Earth.

Taurus / Shor

Taurus’ tikkun for Tevet’s anger is cultivating joy. You may find some unusual sources of delight when Venus/Noga opposes Uranus/Oron Dec. 20. All that glitters is not gold, even on Dec. 25 when Venus trines Neptune/Rahav, though that which you idealize looks pretty sparkly to you. It’s hard to disengage with beloved fantasies, even when they don’t pan out. Venus makes a supportive sextile to powerful Pluto Dec. 28 before entering Sagittarius/Keshet Dec. 29. Establish discipline around all your weakest parts, especially the consumption of pleasure, when Venus squares Saturn/Shabbatai Jan. 1. Hold back the rising tide of self-indulgence!

Gemini / T’omim

Gemini’s tikkun for Tevet’s anger is sincerity. Retrograde Mercury/Kochav trines retrograde Jupiter/Tzedek Dec. 18, enlarging your capacity to hold diverse opinions. Do you really believe everything you think, or are you just trying some ideas on for size? Retrograde Mercury sextiles Saturn/Shabbatai Dec. 21, and conjuncts the Sun before reverting into Sagittarius/Keshet Dec. 22. You need to decide where you stand. Retrograde Mercury squares Neptune/Rahav with Full Moon in Cancer/Sartan on Dec. 26, and conjuncts Mars/Ma’adim Dec. 27. Don’t give up searching for truth. Mercury stations direct Jan. 1 and squares Neptune again Jan. 8. Let integrity be your guide.

Cancer / Sartan

Cancer’s tikkun for Tevet’s anger is yirat shamayim (holy awe, literally “fear of heaven”). The New Moon in Sagittarius/Keshet on Erev Rosh Chodesh Tevet renews focus on your health and mind-body connection. Be sensitive to your vulnerabilities at the First Quarter Moon in Pisces/Dagim Dec. 19; don’t inflict trauma on your own inner child for the sake of your peace of mind! Your innate connection with those who need protection peaks at the Full Moon in Cancer Dec. 26, with retrograde Mercury/Kochav square Neptune/Rahav. Don’t allow others to exploit your compassion! Judge with a “good eye” at the Last Quarter Moon in Libra/Moznayim Jan. 4.

Leo / Aryeh

Leo’s tikkun for Tevet’s anger is holy humility. The Sun squares Neptune/Rahav Dec. 16, adjusting for distorted perceptions to give you a glimpse of the truth. The Sun enters Capricorn/Gidi on Dec. 21, Tekufah Tevet AKA the Winter Solstice, and conjuncts retrograde Mercury/Kochav on Dec. 22. Holy humility requires acknowledgment — to yourself and others — of where you’ve fallen short. The sextile of the Sun to Saturn/Shabbatai and trine to Jupiter/Tzedek Dec. 24-27 reflects the wisdom gained the hard way. Lead with these and not with worldly achievements! The Sun trines Uranus/Oron on Jan. 9, and squares the Lunar Nodal Axis on Jan. 10. Honest self-assessment brings freedom.

Virgo / Betulah

Virgo’s tikkun for Tevet’s anger is mercy. Planetary ruler Mercury/Kochav is retrograde through Jan. 1, trining Jupiter/Tzedek Dec. 18 and sextiling Saturn/Shabbatai Dec. 21. Rather than dwelling on details and sifting through scenarios, offering forgiveness may be the mercy you most need. The Sun conjuncts retrograde Mercury, which reverts into Sagittarius/Keshet on Dec. 22. Mercy begins with an acknowledgment of the truth. Mercury squares Neptune/Rahav, with Full Moon in Cancer/Sartan, Dec. 26, and conjuncts Mars/Ma’adim Dec. 27. You only want to serve the greater good! Truth-telling to your own heart is the first step toward back in the right direction.

Libra / Moznayim

Libra’s tikkun for Tevet’s anger is a balanced truth. Extremism is the natural enemy of justice; you model this Dec. 20 at the opposition of Venus/Noga to Uranus/Oron. Hold yourself and others to a higher standard when Venus trines Neptune/Rahav on Dec. 25. Power surges and passionate scenarios emerge Dec. 29-29 when Venus sextiles Pluto and moves into Sagittarius/Keshet. The square of Venus to Saturn/Shabbatai Jan. 1 helps to check passion and power and keep them in harmony. The Last Quarter Moon in Libra Jan. 4 rebalances past perceptions with new information. Diplomacy is your best weapon: wield it wisely.

Scorpio / Akrav

Scorpio’s tikkun for Tevet’s anger is sacrificial love. Put your empathy and compassion into practical action when Mars/Ma’adim trines Wounded Healer Chiron on Dec. 15, the last night of Hanukkah. Communicate with kindness and compassion Dec. 27 at the conjunction of retrograde Mercury/Kochav and Mars. Dec. 28’s square between Mars and Neptune/Rahav, with Venus/Noga sextile Pluto, is powerfully restorative of both faith and friendship. Take steps to mend fences you may have damaged with harsh responses. Mars enters Capricorn/Gidi Jan. 4 and sextiles Saturn/Shabbatai Jan. 9. Serious matters take precedence over trivial pursuits. The more you give, the more you are replenished.

Sagittarius / Keshet

Sagittarius’ tikkun for Tevet’s anger is trust. By the newly emerged light of the Sagittarius New Moon on Erev Rosh Chodesh Tevet, the sixth night of Hanukkah, you’ll begin to see the clues you previously didn’t notice. It’s OK to reconsider a commitment made under extenuating circumstances when retrograde Mercury/Kochav trines Jupiter/Tzedek Dec. 18. Things have been harsh for sunny Sagittarius for months, but the trine of the Sun to Jupiter Dec. 27, the entrance of Venus/Noga into Sagittarius Dec. 29, and Jupiter stationing direct Dec. 30 signals a major turnaround. Renew your trust by remembering God’s unfailing faithfulness.

Capricorn / Gidi

Capricorn’s tikkun for Tevet’s anger is selflessness. So many opportunities to change direction on Tekufah Tevet, the entrance of the Sun into Capricorn, with retrograde Mercury/Kochav sextiling planetary ruler Saturn/Shabbatai! The more energy you put into generosity, the more you receive back at the Sun’s sextile to Saturn Dec. 24. The development of deep wisdom has been your work for several years now; you display mature understanding of tender feelings Jan. 1 at the square of Venus/Noga to Saturn. Mars/Ma’adim enters Capricorn Jan. 4, and sextiles Saturn Jan. 9. Hard work never frightens you; you’re energized for the task ahead.

Aquarius / D’li

Aquarius’ tikkun for Tevet’s anger is cultivating delight. Sometimes it’s hard for you to get off your soapbox long enough to smell the proverbial roses, but now more than ever you need to connect to nature in real life, and not simply a virtual version of earth, sky, and sea! Venus/Noga opposes modern planetary ruler Uranus/Oron Dec. 20, refreshing a dormant big idea whose time has finally come. The phrase “genius loves company” becomes your motto when the Sun trines Uranus Jan. 9. Don’t let your penchant for terminal uniqueness impede your need for friends and community!

Pisces / Dagim

Pisces’ tikkun for Tevet’s anger is strengthening the will. Don’t get swept away by other people’s feelings when the Sun squares Neptune/Rahav Dec. 16, Shabbos Miketz. The First Quarter Moon in Pisces Dec. 19 empowers you to stake a claim to what is yours and nobody else’s. Idealism runs rampant when Venus/Noga trines Neptune Dec. 25, with retrograde Mercury/Kochav square to Neptune and the Full Moon in Cancer/Sartan on Dec. 26. If your will wavers, the square of Mars/Ma’adim to Neptune Dec. 28 and the direct station of Jupiter/Tzedek Dec. 30 reminds you who you are and what you represent!
