The Cartoon Art Museum is featuring seven works by the late Will Eisner, a pioneer of the graphic novel.
The exhibit includes art from one of his most acclaimed works, “A Contract with God and Other Tenement Stories,” about poor Jews living in a New York slum during the Great Depression. The 1978 book helped popularize the term “graphic novel.”
“Will Eisner: Father of the Graphic Novel,” which opened July 27 and runs though Nov. 10, also includes “To the Heart of the Storm,” an autobiographical novel about Eisner’s time in World War II and the anti-Semitism he and his family endured.
Eisner may be best known for his creation of the masked crime fighter known as “The Spirit,” which was made into a 2008 film starring Gabriel Macht and Samuel L. Jackson.
