Oren’s Hummus, the Palo-Alto based chain with four full-service restaurants offering hummus, shwarma and other Israeli favorites, opened its first Oren’s Hummus Express yesterday. It’s located in the Town & Country Village in Palo Alto (the same shopping center that houses Babka by Ayélet). Oren’s Hummus Express is like the restaurants, except that customers order from a scaled-down menu at the counter. This location has seating for 45 outside and a special menu for high school students. Oren’s Hummus Express is at 855 El Camino Real, #162, Palo Alto.

Chef Aliza Grayevsky Somekh will offer a 10-course vegetarian tasting menu, with each course from an ethnic group that came on a different aliyah to Israel. Somekh is an eighth-generation Jerusalemite, now living in Oakland, whose business name is Bishulim SF. The dinner is on Monday, May 27 at 5 p.m. at Oakland’s Temple Beth Abraham. Analucía Lopezrevoredo, an ethnographer who specializes in cultural identity, is hosting the event. Tickets are available on Eventbrite and cost $70, or $100 with wine pairings.
