My parents were scheduled to be married on Feb. 1, 1981. My grandfather proceeded to make all the arrangements.

He first went to the florist and they assured him they had done many Jewish weddings and knew exactly what to do. On the day of the wedding, the florists came in early and set up the flowers and seats.

The florist decided that because the ceiling in the room was so low, they should just forget about putting up a chuppah.

When the wedding party arrived two hours early, the rabbi and the rest of the crew took one look at the room and were horrified. The rabbi refused to perform the ceremony unless there was a chuppah.

Quickly, my grandma grabbed the phone and called one of her good friends. He raced to the synagogue to find a large tallis. He was able to obtain two.

Meanwhile, the wedding guests were waiting and wondering what had happened. Soon the man with the tallitot arrived. He quickly set up a tallis over the four poles and the ceremony began.
