A rabbi at Sherith Israel for 27 years, Weiner said the new office “is a very beautiful recognition of one’s rabbinic service over the years.”
Traditionally, the vice president is elected as president after serving a two-year term, Weiner said.
As vice president, Weiner will serve as liaison to the CCAR’s regional leaders and help implement the president’s vision.
Weiner declined to speculate on his own agenda if he is elected president, but he said he fully supports the CCAR’s new “Statement of Principles.”
The document, approved at last month’s convention, offers guidelines encouraging Reform Jews to embrace more traditional practices.
