A series of 15 educational posters, developed in commemoration of this year’s 350th anniversary celebration of Jewish life in America, is now available for purchase to educational institutions, synagogues and all other organizations as well as to individuals.

Celebrate 350: Jewish Life in America 1654-2004 commissioned the posters. The New York-based organization has been working with hundreds of local, regional and national organizations, including the congressionally recognized Commission for Commemorating 350 Years of Jewish Life in America. Celebrations are taking place throughout 2004-2005.

Locally, 350 years of American Jewish life is the theme of this year’s “Feast of Jewish Learning,” sponsored by the S.F.-based Bureau of Jewish Education.

The posters were developed collaboratively by designer/writer Scott-Martin Kosofsky, historian and professor Jonathan D. Sarna and artist Lance Hidy.

Topics include refuge; religious liberty; service; American Judaism; tzedakah; labor and social justice; civic participation; language; learning; business and commerce; creative expression; sports; intolerance; Zion and renewal.

Each poster explains these topics by highlighting important events, people and ideas through a chronological framework, punctuated by images of historical documents and artifacts.

“The knowledge these posters impart serves as part of the lasting legacy of this anniversary year, educating the next generation about American Jewry’s rich heritage,” said Alice Herman, the executive director of Celebrate 350.

The poster series was made possible by a grant from the Deanne and Arnold Kaplan Foundation. Additional support was provided by Peachy and Mark Levy.

Each poster is 24-by-36 inches and printed on heavy stock to facilitate framing or mounting. The posters are available only as a set for $50, which includes postage and handling. They can be purchased by check or credit card through the Celebrate 350 Web site, www.celebrate350.org/poster.htm. Information: [email protected] or Rachael Diment (212) 629-0500, ext. 213.
