The Contemporary Jewish Museum in San Francisco is hosting a new series of casual drop-in workshops that mix do-it-yourself art-making and conversation.

Called RitLab (for ritual laboratory), the events will take place every Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. through Aug. 26. The museum will provide each week’s theme along with art materials, snacks and creative guidance. Themes are derived from the CJM’s “Reinventing Ritual” exhibit.

At the next installment, on Thursday, July 15, participants will celebrate the cycles of life by crafting a mandala (design circle) out of colorful tiles. Future events include making your own musical instruments on Aug. 5 (with performance artist Jewlia Eisenberg) and learning how to pickle on Aug. 19 (nosh provided by San Francisco’s Bi-Rite Market).

RitLab is free with museum admission, which is $5 after 5 p.m. on Thursdays. For more details and a complete schedule, visit www.thecjm.org.
