The series “Tough Guys: Images of Jewish Gangsters in Film” will begin with a screening of “Eight Men Out” at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 3 at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, 701 Mission St., S.F.
“Eight Men Out” (1988) explores who the Chicago White Sox were paid off to lose the 1919 World Series by Jewish gangster Arnold Rothstein.
Co-presented by the San Francisco Jewish Film Festival, the series will screen three other Jewish mobsters flicks: “Murder, Inc.” (1960) on Oct. 10; “Little Caesar” (1931) on Oct. 17; and “Straight in the Way” (1934) on Oct. 24. The series is curated by Nancy Fishman, former program director for the S.F. Jewish Film Festival.
