The Bay Area Jewish nonprofits G-dcast and Moishe House will team up to create “Moishe House Rocks,” a series of digital animated videos aimed at encouraging Jewish young adults to initiate Jewish ritual in the home.

The seed money comes from the Jewish New Media Innovation Fund.

The two organizations were among nine finalists chosen from more than 300 applicants in eight countries. The fund disbursed $500,000 to projects designed to engage 18- to 40-year-olds in Jewish life, learning, culture and community.

The “Moishe House Rocks” videos will cover topics such as Shabbat prayers and rituals, Havdallah and Sukkot. Each video will consist of a three-minute cartoon explaining a ritual element and karaoke-style prayers for blessings and ceremonies with subtitles.

The Jewish New Media Innovation Fund was established by the S.F.-based Jim Joseph, Righteous Persons, and Charles and Lynn Schusterman Family foundations to better understand how digital media can help preserve Jewish history, renew traditions and revitalize institutions.
